Occupation: Hunting 2-legged critters
Hobby: Hunting 4-legged critters

I was born in a shack on a rocky Kentucky hill. Raised by wolves until I got a rifle, then shot the whole blamed pack. Been gettin' meaner ever since.

Called my first critter, a red fox in Illinois, about 1960, using a Johnny Stewart electronic caller that played 45 rpm records. Whistled to get it stopped at 8 paces, put crosshair between his eyes, and touched off the 220 Swift, my first varmint rifle. Based on a Springfield 30-06 action, it had a marine practice 22 LR barrel screwed on it. With Hornady SX bullets it, they squeezed down a thousandth of an inch as they entered the barrel. Loaded up
until they evaporated on the way to the target, then backed off until the bullets held together, they made mincemeat of unlucky Thirteen-lined Ground Squirrels, Franklin Gophers, foxes, crows, and blew huge holes through groundhogs.

Known in AZ as "Critr"

My first commercially built varmint rifle was a Remington 700 BDL in 22-250 with impressed checkering, topped with a Weaver V-8 scope. I still have it, and as long as it keeps shooting half-inch groups, expect to keep it front and center in my varmint armament.

I have killed many animals, including deer in various states, several elk, and a desert bighorn sheep, but nothing matches the rush of a predator coming in for the kill.

Sometimes as:

"The Boogieman Of The Mogollon Rim"

Sometimes as:

"Desert Assassin"

But Mostly just "Critr"

The Catpopper

Or other names not fit for print
